A module on radioactivity and nuclear physics. Coverage of radioactivity, including some properties of radioactive nuclei, half-life, ionization, and the use of a G-M tube as a detector. Simple analysis of counting errors is also included. Prerequisites are elementary electrostatics, knowledge of current and voltage, and mechanical energy. Although students who have completed other modules in mechanics and electricity should meet the prerequisites, the prerequisites can be covered in a short introductory lecture.
